π’ What's Changed?
From 1 July 2026, GST registration is no longer mandatory to become or remain a qualified Runner on the GoPeople platform.
This means:
- β You do not need to be GST registered to accept Runs.
- β Both GST Registered and Not GST Registered Runners can apply for all available Runs.
- β If you are GST Registered, you will receive a Tax Invoice for your completed Runs.
- β If you are Not GST Registered, you will receive a Statement instead of a Tax Invoice, and your payments will not include GST.
These changes are reflected in the GoPeople Terms & Conditions, effective 1 July 2026.
β If You Are GST Registered
If you are registered for GST when you complete a Run:
- You can apply for all available Runs.
- Your payments will include GST where applicable.
- You will receive a Tax Invoice for your completed Runs.
- GoPeople will issue the required tax documents on your behalf in accordance with our Terms & Conditions.
β If You Are Not GST Registered
If you are not registered for GST:
- You can still apply for all available Runs.
- Your payments will not include GST.
- You will receive a Statement instead of a Tax Invoice.
π‘ Why We Recommend Registering for GST
Although GST registration is no longer required, GoPeople encourages eligible Runners to consider registering.
Being GST registered may provide a number of business benefits, including:

- π³ Claim GST credits on eligible business expenses, such as:
- Fuel
- Vehicle servicing and repairs

π± How to Update Your GST Status in the Runner App
Once your GST registration is active:
- Open the GoPeople Runner App
- Go to Profile
- Select Compliance
- Tap ABN
- Under Registered for GST, select Yes
- Save your changes
GoPeople will automatically verify your GST registration with the Australian Business Register (ABR).

Important: If your GST registration status changes, please update your GST details in the Runner App as soon as possible. This helps ensure the correct tax documents are issued and your payments are processed correctly.




β Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to earn more than $75,000 before I can register for GST?
No.
You can voluntarily register for GST at any time, even if your annual turnover is less than $75,000.
If your GST turnover reaches the ATO registration threshold, you must register in accordance with Australian tax law.
Does it cost money to register for GST?
No.
Registering for GST with the ATO is completely free.
Can I register for GST as a sole trader?
Yes.
Sole traders, partnerships, and companies can all register for GST.
How long does GST registration take?
If you register online through the ATO, your GST registration generally becomes effective immediately.
Your GST status may take 24β48 hours to appear on the Australian Business Register (ABR).
What are GST credits?
